Happy Christmas!
Ehm, Ananda? I didn't post anything for a week at Lyrical Heaven, and now all my new posts aren't showing up on LH. There's a link to the archives for the new stuff, but it doesn't automatically show up. So if you have any idea what's up, that would be helpful. Not that I'm expecting answers for anything specific. Well, I had a lovely Christmas, but I must soon get off... For some reason I found myself playing a game at msn, an' that was very addicting. An' I've been on all afternoon. Watched Special Edition FotR today. ^_^ Oh, an' thank Megs for me, 'cos I gotta get off an' I didn't get to say thanks yet! Wham Bam Adam is so lovely! ^_______^ ~Daffy Wednesday, December 25, 2002
Hey, cool! This was coincidence, really. My answers were pretty scattered-all-over, 'cause I lot of them I had to go with whatever was closest (and I use the term loosely).

::bursts out laughing (well, internally, 'cause my brother's down here):: Oh, my goodness, Zinni. Same to you!
I wanted to be online to talk, but at 6:42 I was having a nice warm nap in front of the fireplace. I'll see if I can call you tomorrow when I get my wisdom teeth out. It's really snowy and nice here...wished you or the play-people could have come over to play in it, like in November, but oh, well, some other time. How was Christmas (Eve) with Calypso's family, Daf? They make some nice vegetarian stuff, or did you have to fend for yourself? A final Feliz Navidad to all of you (if only I knew how to say it in Quenya)! -Laurel Sunday, December 22, 2002
**SPOILER ALERT STILL IN EFFECT FOR LOTR: TTT - NON-VIEWERS, DO NOT PROCEED**
...Yeah, you weren't there for our post-movie plot breakdown, Daf: Bethie, Julie, Blake, Christy, you, and Calypso had left, but the rest of us met outside the bathrooms (seriously) and had a big wrap-up kind of discussion. We agreed that they could have fit in Shelob if they'd cut out all of the weird little Arwen bits that weren't even from the book; probably they could have got in Palantir if they'd done the Ent and the Faramir scenes right. That's what Bethie and I burst out laughing about, the Ents--Bethie and I, as you well know, have rather a Merry-and-Pippin rivalry going as to who's just generally cooler, and Bethie was giving me some very superior looks when Merry made his big speech and Pippin was about to give up, but it was Pippin who (finally!) had the brainwave about which way to go back when Merry'd given up, which brought our respective alter-ego hobbits so unexpectedly even that we both burst out laughing, because both of us had thought theretofore that Pippin had actually met defeat. (Bethie: "I still think Merry has higher moral integrity!") That didn't bug me as much as the bit where they took Frodo and Sam all the way to Gondor, though. That seriously screwed me up, 'cause they made Faramir ruddy evil, and Frodo nearly killed Sam, and all that blatantly-unTolkien jazz. And, okay, I don't remember the rousing of Theoden being done like an exorcism in the book (and didn't really like it in the movie)... The movie's good parts (and there were many, more than I'm listing here): Eowyn (she ruddy rocked!); Gollum/Smeagol (you do pity him more when you see him); the music theme for Rohan (tres hurras for whatever incredibly lovely flute-like instrument that was); Aragorn (wish they hadn't made him do that stupid thing with the cliff and the river); Gandalf's barely-catchable wink when they let him keep the staff; Legolas telling Aragorn, "You look terrible!" and asking Gimli, "Would you like me to describe it to you, or shall I try to find you a box?"; Theoden reciting the poem from the book about where now is the horse and the rider?, etc.; the cool little vignette with the boy and Aragorn and the sword; the early Gimli-talking-to-himself line "Just keep breathing! That's the key!" (reminded me of every mile run/pacer test I've ever gone through); the brill, brill part with Frodo and Sam about showing up in stories someday (one of my favorite parts of the Two Towers book); the general feeling of a lot of it, especially with Rohan (that was wonderfully, wonderfully done, the whole bit). Whether it's better than Fellowship, I'll have to see a few times to decide, but it was lovely, lovely--I was dreamy all the way home, and for almost half an hour after, sitting there on my bed and thinking and talking aloud. We're learning Quenya tomorrow night. I've got to lesson four or five already--I can teach what I know; it'll shorten things up a little, and we can get farther than we otherwise would in a night. Trust me, it's not something you just set about. But Open Door Mission first, and I hope to have your present ready, but there's been a slight wrinkle in the plan, Daf, so you may just get the first half of it--I don't know. See you all tomorrow. -Laurel
So, what did you guys think of LotR? Really sorry I wasn't there until late. My aunt and uncle were over today and we had lunch at 1pm with them, then I ran about getting my costume on. Not that anyone really got to notice my costume. But that's okay. Couldn't find peeps after the movie, and Calypso was due to go to D&D today, and already late, so we kinda vanished, I guess. Things have been a little crazy. Please tell me you'll be home sometime tomorrow, Ananda... I haven't gotten to see you yet or even really say hi muchly! I wasn't sure if I'd be able to make it home and have anything to eat yesterday, 'cos all I'd had for lunch was an English muffin. Right, enough of this, I'm starting to feel really bad about things.
IF YOU ARE STUMBLING ON THIS BLOG AND HAVE NOT YET SEEN LOTR: TTT, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER. I KINDA HAPPENED TO START WRITING SOME SPOILERS. SORRY!!! Back to LotR. So, did you like it? There was goodness in it, but I wasn't sure if I liked the direction they took some of the characters. I'm too much of a purist in this case, I guess. The credits popped up and I was very much confused. Wasn't there more? Where was the Palantir? Where was Shelob's Lair? So I was a little let down at the end, very much want Return of the King to be happened now, 'cos I want to know if things will be right and if it will return to bookage, maybe...? ^^'' But very good as a movie, I'd say. Hurrah for Ents and for Sam's nice motivational speech. And oliphaunts. Gollum was well done, too. Right. I thought maybe things would be happening tonite, but it looks like it's low-key, just me, mom and dad, sally, and the gerbils. By the way, the gerbils from school are at my house for break. B was gonna leave them at school and come in once or twice to school. Couldn't let that happen after they demolished their plastic house over Thanksgiving break, and that was only five days, not ten. They've been waking me up bright and early. Yum. :::daffy moans from bed::: "Go back to sleep, guys." :::noise persists::: :::daffy moans louder::: "Cut it out! Go to bed!" :::noise persists, or gets louder, even::: :::daffy turns the light on to see gerbil drinking from the water bottle, the other gathering bedding to enhance the nest::: "Shut up, please!!! Go to bed, guys... let me *please* sleep for a couple more hours?...?" :::turns light out::: :::wonders: i've never seen them drinking before. do they only do it at night or in the early morning?::: :::noise persists, but a little quieter::: :::daffy sighs::: "I give up." :::she rolls over and pulls the blanket over her head::: ~Daffy
